50 years ago - Troop changes

Changes to the troops early December 1959 was approved by the Signal Officer in Chief Major General RJ Moberly CB OBE who spent two weeks with the regiment and was the Reviewing Officer at the Presentation Parade Monday 14th December 1959

A Troop becomes Quadrant Troop – Red shoulder flash affiliated to 4th Signal Regiment

OC 2Lt M Buckett – Sgt H Meekings and Sgt G Greaves
B Troop becomes Bruno Troop – Brown shoulder flash affiliated to 10th Signal Regiment

OC 2Lt DA Carter – Sgt RA Peake and Sgt BE Greenwood
D Troop becomes Kukri Troop – Turquoise shoulder flash affiliated to 17th (Gurkha) Signal Regiment

OC 2Lt RJ Green – Sgt RE Tamlyn
F Troop becomes Francisca Troop – Yellow shoulder flash affiliated to 28th Signal Regiment

OC Capt PG Rogers – SSgt DA Curley and Sgt JA Angell
G Troop becomes Anzio Troop – Blue shoulder flash affiliated to 1st Signal Regiment

OC Lt PDE Gregory – Sgt S Jasper

OC Capt H Rothwell – 2Lt KLG Sheppard – Sgt GA Aven and Sgt T Martin
M Troop becomes Kohima Troop – Orange shoulder flash affiliated to 2nd Signal Regiment

OC Lt JM Hewson – Sgt J Baxter and Sgt W Easter

RAEC Sgts were also attached to each troop but only have one name Sgt Spur was attached to White Spear Troop

RIP Joe Howell White Spear 59-61

Joe died less than a year after leaving Denbury on 20 September 1962 just 18 years young Pete Livingston his JSgt in White Spear asked me to lay a wreath at the Hannover-Limmer Cemetery in Germany on behalf of the troop thanks go to Pete for his kindness and a generous donation to the welfare fund

The Unit newspaper Junior Mercury changes format to an eight-sheet printed edition produced by Junior Leaders under the supervision of WOII (SSM) PM Wheatley RAEC

RIP Dave Feirn K/White Swan 58-61

Sorry to bring sad news that Dave Feirn passed away on the 30th April 2009 many will remember Dave from K later White Swan Troop 58-61 and at later reunions

Young Dave was just 66 and died of a heart attack the charity donation fund in Dave's name raised £325.50 at the request of his wife Janet to go to Rawmarsh St Joseph Youth Football Club a very worthy cause that Dave spent much of his time helping to run and support…RIP Dave you will not be forgotten...many thanks to Jim ‘Chalky’ White for the Denbury Boys Club wreath

RIP Fred Shorter Kukri 63-65

Sorry to bring sad news that Fred Shorter passed away on the 30th April 2009 many will remember Fred from Kukri Troop 63-65 and at later reunions also as a supporter for the 2005 Ten Tors Denbury Boys Team

Young Fred was just 62 and died of a cancer and had been suffering for some time the charity donation fund in Fred's name raised £325.50 at the request of the family to go to Cancer Reasearch a very worthy cause…RIP Fred you will not be forgotten...many thanks to Harry Harris for the Denbury Boys Club wreath

Collection in Frank 'Geordie' Pierpoint's memory

Frank joined the Junior Leaders Regiment, Royal Signals, Denbury Camp, Newton Abbot, South Devon in April 1963 following his close friend Frank King who joined in May 1962 they were a similar age and after Junior Squadron both served in Quadrant Troop and graduated to man service in December 1964

Frank returned to Denbury to complete his trade training as a Comcen Operator in 1965 was posted to Germany then later to Singapore then back to Germany and completed 6 years army service and returned to civilian life

Frank passed away on 11 March 2009 and is remembered by many from his time at Denbury. Also by those who were ‘out of time’ from our reunions over the last few years his whit and banter impressed all who met him we have lost a truly great friend

Many Denbury Boys travelled from all over the UK to attend Frank’s funeral. A collection fund was arranged; the following and their partners in no particular order have raised £532

Dave Denning, Trevor Whittingham, Barry Jervis, Eric Simpson, Geordie Bird, Terry Reynolds, Bob Wathen, Mike Butchers, Fred Songhurst, Jim White, Jack Harper, Bernie Temmen, Clive Fletcher (in Cyprus), Dai Rees, Keith Greenhalgh (in Mexico), Dave Clapson (in Australia), John Topping (working in China), Vince Borda, John Thomasson, Leo Gordon-Marchant, Frank King, George McIntosh, Trevor Calver (on holiday in Australia) and Steve Wright (in Germany)

It is the wish of Gloria and Frank’s family that the donation should go to the British Legion Tyne and Wear Branch in his memory

Sorry to bring sad news that Frank 'Geordie' Pierpoint passed away many will remember Frank from Denbury and at later reunions with his good lady Gloria along with his best mate Frank King Quadrant 62-64

Young Frank was just 62 and died of a heart attack his funeral was at the Mountsett Crematorium Stanley County Durham on Wednesday 18th March 2009 at midday to see him off was Gloria and family along with his best mate Frank King and many former Denbury Boys …RIP Frank you will not be forgotten...many thanks to Jim ‘Chalky’ White for the Denbury Boys Club wreath
